I’ll love you forever.

When I was a little girl, my favorite book was, “Love you forever” by Robert Munsch. It’s an adorable book that follows a little boy and his mom through life. As the duo go through life, the mom always tells her son,

“I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.”

Growing up, I loved that his mom would undoubtedly tell him how much she loved him. It’s a book that stuck with me throughout the years and one that I felt was appropriate to give to C, as we enter this new chapter. After almost 3 years as C’s nanny, the time has come to part ways.

In April 2016, my wife and I visited Denver, Co with the intention of celebrating my April birthday and having a little vacation. We didn’t know that Denver would weigh heavily on our hearts and minds and that we would be pulled to move there. When I first put in my notice with C’s parents, I simply told them that we were moving but hadn’t decided where. After really talking about it and considering our options, we decided to officially move to Denver, Colorado in March 2018. I gave C’s parents a 6 month notice; standard notice is typically 2 weeks, but I wanted to be honest with C’s family and give them an adequate opportunity to adjust to the idea and find a replacement.

Additionally, I knew I needed to give six months notice to prepare myself for the move. Leaving C will be one of the hardest things I’ve done. But it’s part of the job. I knew when I became a nanny, that even though I love my nanny kids- one day I’d have to leave them. Preparing C for a new nanny has been difficult; he’s still a little too young to fully understand what’s going on. I started by letting him know that he was going to get a new nanny and that I was moving far away.

During our overnight weekend together, I presented C with the book “Love You Forever.” It’s such a sentimental gift for me and I cried reading it to him. I can only hope and pray that C remembers our relationship & connection. He’s been lucky enough to have a nanny who has truly loved and cared for him. And I’ve been beyond lucky to have been his nanny. My time with C is coming to a close but my time with C will forever live on in my memories and heart.

They say motherhood changes you; so does nannyhood. I cherish all of my nanny kids and I am so grateful for the parents who trust me to unconditionally and safely love their kids. I’ve been blessed beyond belief and am so happy to have spent the last three years as C’s nanny. The next nanny chapter will undoubtedly be an adventure, as this one has been.

I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always. As long as I’m living, my nanny kid you’ll be.
